Real and Fake

A surgeons hands display and dangle shiny bags of silicone above a willing patient who rips open her chest to reveal that all the fuss is about two lumps of fat on a woman's chest. All she can see are the shiny new silicone implants above her head. She is blind to the scar tissue that forms around the bags below her.

Cellular

This abstracted image of a cell is inspired by my learning about action potentials and the synaptic cleft during Anatomy Class. It was done using spray paint and chalk pastels.

Library Art Show

My painting Glass Garden was accepted into the Student Library Art Show. I took it there yesterday bringing with me my own hammer and nails. I hung it up on the wall designated to me after attempting to do a little math to make sure it was even. Hopefully nobody will notice half an inch. I think it looked good on the wall and so did the other artists works.

Anatomy

I have been taking an Anatomy course in school and one day while I was looking through my text book I noticed these pictures of a person's dissected throat. Being exposed at a young age to horror movies (thanks to my two older brothers) may have helped me look past the gory aspect of the photo's and see something beautiful. I thought they were perfect subjects for my drawing homework which was to draw the juxtaposition between work and play.

CoSmIc

My brother commissioned me to do an abstract painting for him in the style of another artist's work he had which was very cosmic looking. He told me he wanted it to look like he was on a mad fun trip so I took him on a trip to outer space. I maybe made it look a little too cosmic but I think it turned out really well and I'm sad to have to give it away (in exchange for a small fee of course). I used super thick paint and worked with the palette knife on this one which I'm not used to doing. It was a good chance to step outside my comfort zone.

Black Lace

While I was in New York city with my mother, I went to the gallery district for the first time and saw Mark Flood's paintings of lace. Here is my own Mark Flood inspired lace painting. I plan on doing another only much larger.

This painting was tricky to do. I used a spray adhesive to get the lace to stick and some how the glue got all over. After I finished painting I pulled the lace off.
